We’ve all been there: After a long drive you arrive at the Congress Centre. In the foyer you get a cup of coffee, you dispose of the coffee cream and sugar bags in front of the conference room in the bin. At your seat, ranges of small drink bottles, individually wrapped cookies and a thick stack of documents expect you. Before you sit down, you put your jacket back on because the room is colder than it is outside.
Funded by the Federal Environmental Foundation
In Osnabrück, it will soon be different: Ourselves, the City Convention Bureau and our partners make our conference more environmental friendly. The project "green meetings in Osnabrück" is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) since, for an average meeting, more CO2 is used by traveling to the event, power consumption and paper consumption than by a single person in a whole year.

Savings potential already on arrival
Return train tickets to Osnabrück are available for participants from all over Germany for 99 Euros. With a congress ticket, which you can already print at home, you can use the local natural gas powered buses. Or - even more climate friendly – travel the short paths of Osnabrück on foot. The change from individual packaging, for example for coffee cream, sugar and biscuits to large containers and the provision of large deposit bottles or by grid-bound drinking water are only the first steps. The conscious air conditioning and heating of the rooms such as an intelligent lighting concept and the use of natural light save energy. Consequent waste separation and recycling such as the use of seasonal and regional products in catering should be taken for granted by the project participants.
Including organisers actively - get involved!
You, as conference organisers, can participate in the project. Motivate your participants and staff to travel environmental friendly and behave environmentally friendly! By converting to a digital invitation procedure and documents sent via e-mail, you can stem the preprogrammed flood of paper. What you can also do to make meetings „greener“, we can tell you.
